just out of curiousity, if youre trying to do that wrap, and you havent installed the springs yet, could you put heat shrink wrap over the ends of the spring and heat shrink it to the spring?

*edit* or i guess you could use heat shrink to keep the spiral wrap clean too...

Shrink wrap is no where near thick enough to stand up to the force of the springs coils rubbing. You'll ware right through that stuff in a few days.
