Removing molding on outside of door

I was wondering if anyone has ever removed the door molding. You know, the rectangular shaped bar on the outside piece of door. I am curious if anyone has because

1. It would make it easier to wax since it would not get stuck in that piece anymore
2. It would make everything look smoother

I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so do you have any pics or prices of what you were charged? Would you need an autobody shop to do it? Is it painted underneath there? Just some basic questions like that or even how is it held on?

It will leave small holes where the part was originally attached. You would have to have someone fill this in if you wanted it to look OK.. Otherwise you will have holes.

they should only be held on with double sided tape. so really shouldnt be too bad to take off. theres paint behind it just might be in better shape then the rest of the car. i just wrecked my max and gunna have to replace those trims so ill let ya know how it goes

brown hole

listen to maxipad he is bloody correct- i was going to remove these for a smoother shaven look but when i got the moulding about 3 or 4 inches off i noticed small holes which held the moulding in place - yes there is a double sided tape holding it also but it will leave holes - so you will have to take it to a body shop to get the holes filled and painted to match your color

Hmmm.... What do you think a body shop would price me?

To fill the holes would be easy, but to strip down the door and paint it would make the price go up. Save yourself some time and strip it yourself and patch the holes, prep it, then take it to them to paint it. The paint cost will vary depending on what color you have.

Well I think I might go on some snowboarding trips this year and if I do maybe I will call my old HS. They have an autobody shop there and the teachers and what not only let upperclassmen work on the cars and the work always comes out nice. That way I wont be without my car if I can help it. Maybe I will see if they could do it. Plus since it is a school they are not allowed to charge for labor. Just parts. So that alone could save me some money if I decide to go for it. As long as they blend the doors in with the rest of the car I am happy.

Like this? It's going to cost. I had mine done when I painted the car, but normally it's going to be $500-$800 to do it right. Holes have to be filled and everything has to be filled in and sanded down smooth.
