Problem starting with 230k miles on it

I havent been here in a while but I'm glad this board is still going strong.

Well I had a quick question. I finally ran into some problems with the max. It started yesterday. I went to crank the car and it kind of took a second to start but the engine finally turned over. Car ran great after that. I go to start the max this morning and it kind of took a second to turn on again. Idle was great. I was a little worried that I would get stuck at work so I turned the engine off and went to crank it back on but then it tried to turn over but would not turn over and started clicking. I dont believe its the battery since all the lights, radio, dome lights and everything is working fine. Does this sound like the starter is out? If anyone can point me in the right direction, Id appreciate it. Thanks

Anu

Does it only click? Go get the batt/alternator tested. If the charging system is fine it might just be the starter. Gimme a call

I agree, I would not assume the battery is good, on the lot where I work, many times everything seems fine, but starts VERY slowly. Start with battery

Hey man, yeahh it just clicks now. The engine wont turn over at all. The lights, radio and everything else is working fine. Could it still be a battery problem? Ill try to jump it this weekend and see if I get a response and I will call you if I need more help.

Yo something like this happened to me changed the starter, battery all of that ended up being a fuse check your fuses. Think its was a weather sensor fuse forgot the name but the fuse is right next to the one for the tail lights. Check it before you spend all your money thinking its a big problem.

check your battery terminals, they might be corroded. if not, then i would say starter...

Is your starter properly grounded?

There used to be a long thread here about starting problems that could be solved very simply by connecting a wire from the negative pole of your battery to one of the bolts attaching the starter to the car. Seems the starter was inadequately grounded. This solution solved my starting problem and those of quite a few other folks..

Go get your battery and alternator tested. If those are both fine then it's your starter.

i think its your starter. if it was a fuse it would randomly not start without any warning signs with starting it in the past. id check the starter before anything.

i predict this is the actual battery

especially if its undersized for this application it can have enough voltage but not enough amps quickly as it ages. this car needs a lot of amps to start right

if it is actually the wiring to the starter or the ground is developing resistance i predict a new battery will overcome this. Those amps take the natural resistance rising into account.
