Light: Service Engine Soon

Was wondering if anyone could tell me how to turn off the light that stays on that says: "Service Engine Soon"?

Thanks all.

If you aren't trolling, go to your local major auto parts store and they will most likely scan your vehicle for free.

+2. I mean its simple to just read the codes and change or troubleshoot the defective part and clear codes. Now if you have done that and the light is still on them say so. Your posting does not give us enough details

Check the vehicle's owner manual and it should explain how you turn it off.

It usually turns off when you remove the key from the ignition. Problem solved

Ok... now I would do a OBII read on it, but this is NOT, NOT the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.

This is the service engine soon light that is on. Is this light the same as the "check engine light" If so, I know I can reset it (by the floor board / pedals) and aware of how do that. I am just unaware if this light is the same as the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (same?)

as for being a member since 2002.... you guys will grow up and move on. This is what I did and got a upgraded ride. However... i did recently buy this 97 Max for my wife, which is just a "get my kids from school" car and nothing more. I was at 1-time an enthusiast in my max back in 2002-2003 or so, but I forgot about all the hidden secrets of this lovely vehicle (lol).
Now I didn't own another MAX until about 6+ months (give and take) This vehicle is a beater car and that is what it really is (been wrecked / repaired by previous owner ect..ect). So could anyone help me out?? Thanks

On this gen max, is the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light the same as the "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT"???

If not, I know on my old Acura... it had both of these lights and when the dumb SERVICE ENGINE SOON light was on, there was a button under the dash/steerwheel that you press down as u turn on the engine and the crap turned off. Now.... if it was the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.... then it would be a computer scanner was needed. In my case... on this MAX.... I am asking about the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light.

Thanks.....

If you get code P1447, you'll have nightmares from resetting the SES light by the time you get the car fixed.

service engine soon light but no DTC

I just recently bought a 2001 Maxima SE and my service engine soon light came on today. but when I checked it with my code reader it said there is no trouble codes. Anyone ever heard of this or had it happen to them?

May have two lights - one for "Check Engine" and another as a service reminder. First choice to find out is owners manual. If you don't have one, turn the ignition to on (not start) and see if you get another light that goes out after a few seconds that says "check engine."
