Can a trailer hitch be put on a 1999 Maxima, and if so, what type (how heavy duty etc.). My husband wants to know because our other car with the trailer hitch is on its way out. Thanks!

I'm not sure on what type hitchs fit the Max, but from what I understand the Maxima has a 1000lb? tow rating. It's not very much, check your owners manual. This car's great for alot of things, towing isn't one of them.

Regards,

Thanks Wizeguy,
It wouldn't be for a boat or camper or anything. Just a utility trailer for runs to Home Depot etc (we are renovating a house). I haven't actually bought the car yet, so I don't have an owners manual. Thanks again for your reply

I have a hitch on my 99 max. Only tow a small jet ski with it. Look at a site called 1800hitchit.com, this is where I purchased mine with the ball and wiring harness for $124 delivered. The brand of the hitch is Hidden Hitch, which it is, when the ball is not attatched it is not even visible.

The real disadvantage is the weight, probably around 50lbs.
