Ignition Key Cyl Jammed - Common Issue/ replacement?

Today the key in my '99 would not turn. I sprayed a bit of WD-40 in there to flush it out and it freed up.

Is this a common issue? Was it likely just sticky and my fix is good for another 20K miles, or is it likely worn out and I'm likely to get stuck somewhere.

I'm envisioning all sorts of complications if I have to replace the cylinder involving key matching, chip programming, etc.

Info appreciated!

Thanks,

1. Does the Ignition Cylinder commonly wear out on this cars?

2. Will I need all new keys for the car or can they get me a cylinder that works with the old key?

Thanks,
