98 maxima no start/ no crank after lic plate light short
98 maxima no start/ no crank after lic plate light short
SO today while replacing my licence plate bulbs the power and ground touched and i heard a loud click from the front end of the car. The running lights and side markers dont work but the signals and brake lights do. I have cheked all the fuses and they seem fine minus "tail L" had no power going to it(fuse is not blown). After this i tried to crank and nothing happened. PLz does anyone know which relay/ wire i have effed up

If you can't find them, pm me and I'll check through my fsm.
That's very strange that it won't crank. The starting system is protected by h, 33, and 13. Try one of those. Did you check for power at Tail\L with the head lamp switch one or off? That fuse is only powered with the parking lamps are turned on (first setting for the switch).
Fuse # 66 (15Amp) in underhood fusebox is probably blown. Should not keep the car from starting though.
Does you horn work? If not check the fusible link 140 Amps it's located in the middle of the under hood fuse box. Neither of these should keep the car from cranking.
Check the 30Amp fusible links in that box also, one of those would prevent cranking.

Nopike,
I thought about that fusible link also. I couldn't connect the dots to the starting system though. On a second look, the anti-theft system is the missing link. However, it looks like that relay is NC (EL-30), so if no current was flowing through the coil of the relay, it would still conduct and allow the clutch interlock relay coil to be powered.
I can't see why shorting the license plate lights would take out the starting system, but not the five amp fuse that protects those lamps. This is interesting. I have to admit, I'm excited for a resolution.
OP, next time when doing electrical work, make sure the power is off first. Really, you should disconnect the battery too.

1) The problem should be a blown fuse. 2) It is unlikely but possible that the starting issue is unrelated to the plate light short.
If you enjoy electronic trouble shooting these things can be fun.
The op should find out if anything else is not working, windows, power seats, Fog lights. That may help point to the trouble.
Problem fixed

Today i came into work an hour early to chek things out and all the lights worked fine, It still did not start tho. I removed my neg terminal n main fuse and let it sit to reset the ecu. After all that it started fine. Im guessing i blew a curcuit breaker that reset sometime between the short and me coming to work.

Good that you got it working though.
