In Dash Navigation

I have a question for you, If I will get in dash navigation and put gps antenna inside, will it work or it must be outside?

I have a Pioneer Avic D3 and I have my antenna wedged between the two vents under the dash.... signal is always excellent and speed is always accurate too.
