Won't crank, any idea?

For a little while now attempting to start my car wouldn't start right up I would have to crank twice to get it started. I didn't worry too much planned to get it checked soon.

I pull into a friend's driveway cut the car off, attempts to start and nothing. I get a single click that's all. I get a jump the car starts right up.

Next Day: I park my car cut it off, go to crank and nothing. Tried a jump, nothing happen. All I get is a click. Car is towed to shop, shop closes at 12 noon. No Fixing.

Next Day: I go to the shop where the car is located, take the battery out go get it tested. The guy at O'rilley's says can't tell if the battery is good or not because it's missing it's data sheet. So he thinks the battery is good but not sure. Put the battery back in the car, make secure good connection on both the positive and negative side and attempt to crank. Positive side terminal smokes. I have a picture if it will help to see what exactly it looks like under neath the hood.

Anyone know what might be the cause? Why the smoking? Why it cranked from a jump one day but not the other?

When attempting to start, you only hear "it" click ONE time and that is it.

Sounds like your starter.

Mine went at 165k mi and did exactly as you describe. It was difficult to tell at first because my battery was also on its death bed.

You probably got it to start from the jump that one time because it was right before the starter seized up.

That's what I was thinking so I hope so. Keep the repair bills at a minimum. I'm at about 165K so you may be right.

+3 sounds like starter. Pull the Max out the shop and do the starter yourself. Its easy to do.
