TPS Sensor Question

Hi, I am trying to test my idle speed becuase of a problem I am having (see other thread I posted earlier). I am looking in the Chiltons manual and it says to unplug the TPS, start the engine, warm it up, and goes from there. I have unpluged the TPS and my engine wont stay started unless I give it gas. Is that normal?? Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I am really not sure if this will solve my problem but I think it might just do it. I warmed the car up with the TPS unplugged (had to keep reving engine or it would have died) and after that it idled at 400 instead of the 700 it should be at. I adjusted the screw and not it idles at 700 with the sensor unplugged. It idled at 700 with then sensor connected before and after the adjustment. Hopefully it will do better in the morning when I go to start it cold. (which would solve the problem I posted in the earlier thread)
