maxi kinda sounds like it has a supercharger

first off she has 200k on her.
for the past 2 days I've been smelling like some weird smell.
i though it was because i turned on my seat heater (kinda cold that day) since it hasn't been used for awhile.

lately when i would start her up in the morning the belt would squeal like crazy.
this morning i went to start her up and i was welcomed with the squealing then like a supercharger noise sound.

let her warm up while doing that i was checking up under the hood...it was hard to determine where the noise was coming from.

so i proceeded to drive but in between you could hear the belt squeal off and on.
then it stopped after a minute or two.
but the smell and the sound is still there and the pitch changes with the rpms.

i checked my oil level : no mixing (in case of the water pump), the level is fine.
i do notice though my idle is higher than normal (she normally idle's at 500-400rpms).

no ABS, BRAKE, BATTERY light on.

any advice?

Word word, I am hearing this too. It also happens on my mom's Quest which can apparently be a sign of the timing chain going wacky, but she took it to have it checked out and they said it's all good (in the hood). I'm also getting some belt squeal which I may try to deal with tomorrow.

cartman854 not tryin to sound like a smart *** but as if i had the money to take it there.

honda killer i think your right. i just went out there to test it, it seems the ecm knows whats going on.
because as i said in the post the rpms are higher than normal.
and i'm getting 12.6volt's right now with nothing on.
once the volts go into the 13's the idle goes down.

DAMN!!!!!!!
is the alternator removal easier than it looks??

Well its like 2 bolts but you have to remore the fans to have enough clearance to snake it out of there.

LoL, I meant just take them for a drive or watev, then be like "o ok, well Ill call you back when I can bring it in...." and then you know the problem and you win....? Iv done that before, and I still take it back to that same dealership... when I have to....

your aleternator is done. put a screw driver on it and listen to the other end to see if the noise is coming from there.

Mine is doing the same thing. It's quite for now, but will be getting louder. My mechanic took a look it at and said by belts were going.

If you are gonna be changing one, change the other at the same time. Our cars have two belts, one for AC and the other for everything else (If i remember correctly).
I might be wrong, but all it matters is that there are two belts - one big, one small. Both of them should cost you under $50 if you buy at a car parts shop or about $100 from the dealer. Your call.
But, since you have to be getting in there and disassembling a bit of your car to change the belt, it makes sense to change both and save yourself the trouble later on.

PS corner shop mechanic would probably do it for $40 - $50. So, if you got a bit of cash and don't feel like doing it yourself - that is always an option. But don't agree to pay any more, or they will be ripping you off.

silencecalls i resent the fact you put autotragic. (j/k).
well i turned out to be the alternator.
i was driving to my buddy's house and the bose started tripping.
then minute or 2 the abs light came on.

then followed by the battery light along with 1,100rpm idle.

the alternator was kinda easy to do.
i did'nt have to remove the lower radiator hose or cooling fans.
the compressor dropped then the alternator.
but let me tell ya...200k on a alt.
thats damn good.

i did learn though that the cali spec has 110amp and the federal has a higher amperage rating 125 i believe. and guess who has the federal.

cartman854...lol, sorry.

Interesting - my JDM A32 cefiro has a 90A alternator, and my NZ A32 Maxima has a 100A.
