Title change in a GLE in CA

I am curious if you can get the car past a smog check with the check engine light assuming it passes otherwise. Do they fail you just because of the light being on?

Derek, I'd recommend you to ask the seller to get the smog check done before he sold you the car. Or better yet, go with him to a smog check place to make sure he gets it done legally. You don't want to mess around with the new California smog laws. I used to know shops that will pass any car for $50. Sometimes they don't even need you to bring the cars over. Nowadays no one would do that. And believe me, you don't want to be stuck with a car that cannot pass the smog check in California.

the smog tech wont even test the car if the check engine light is on. its an automatic fail.

Well, with the light on, what are my options? I intended on buying it and then fixing whatever it is, however, if for some reason whatevers in the ECU doesnt fix it, i guess im screwed, so what are all your opinions?
