Ethanol mixed gas - Still usinge 91 octane or better?
I used to buy 93 octane instead of 87 because I got my money back through gas mileage. Now that we have this ethanol mixed into our gas, the gas mileage has gone down as if I was using 87. I don't get any knock from using 87. Are yall still using 91+? or have yall lowered your octane since it doesn't make a difference?

nothing but 93 for me
yea i only run premium in mine...I just got it not to long ago. I did run 87 for about 4 tanks and then switched to 93. To be honest I haven't noticed much difference but after reading a lot on here about it ...im sticking with premium only a few dollars more per tank and at least in my mind well worth it.

To the best of my knowledge, there has been around 10% ethanol in the gas you buy for a long time, although that may vary with location.
The octane of the fuel your engine requires depends on a number of factors, the compression ratio being only one. The cleanliness of the combustion chamber plays a part as carbon deposits can cause detonation by holding heat. The ambient temperature also plays a role. Higher temperatures lead to detonation. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but since the temperatures went up all you see is people complaining that their cars are losing power. This is not a coincidence.
Personally, I've noticed knock with 89, so I use 91 or better.

I'm gonna nit-pick, but the engineers designed the car to take 91 or better. Fortunately, Massachusetts is one of the states that carries 93 as premium, as many other parts of our country carry 91 at best.

I still use premium for my car as always for maximum performance. The label is right inside your gas door stating this. But just as a heads up for some, during my travels to upstate NY from NYC, there was a select few gas statins that I seen 95 grade. Never got a chance to try it though. If I do see it again and I am on empty, I will give that a go and compare.

My Maxima on 100% Real gas 91 runs better than my Maxima on 90% gas 93 octane.
I wish I had more facts (numbers) besides the increase in mpg, but if I go to that gas station up in Oklahoma ever again I will run more test with the car to see any other differences but I'm pretty sure it was faster on the real 91 vs. the fake 93.
But I can see where the OP is coming from.... Either way I still always use premium.

I used to use 91 but then i jus couldnt find any anymore. As long as prices stay under $3/gal ima run 93. After that i will switch to 89. 89 is fine. 87 is downright disrespect.

Man, two summers ago was the worst for premium gas. When it was at $4.55/gal here in NY, it took me $75 to fill. The pockets were hurtin...

In the '80's we called this crap gasahol. Now it's this 21st century term of ethanol blend. Either way, it's less powerful than had they left things alone. I run a premium, mid grade blend. Runs fine, although I don't get on it. I think if worse came to worse, regular will work fine. Just no more than 50% throttle input. 25-35% input even better.

just filled up $66.. i run 91 no ethanol when i can but man is it expensive. Otherwise I use 93. If i ran 1 tank of regular I guaruntee that I would have to replace coils, injectors, sensors, fuel filter, etc. 300k miles and terrible gas don't mix well..

We have run nothing but regular since purchasing the vehicle 5 years/100K miles ago. Never any pinging and runs strong when asked, though that doesn't happen very often. Have not done a mileage check with this vehicle, but when I did one a couple of years ago with my Avalon (regular vs mid-grade) I saw no measurable difference, so I stuck with regular. Don't expect to change anyone's mind either way on this issue.

after they put a computer under the dash really using regular, plus, premiun doesnt matter because the computer can adjust to any change of fuel you are using. i use regular here in my town is $3.29 and plus is $3.59 so is a 0.30 cents difference .30cents X 18 Gallons = $5.40 over per tank so is your call really
