Bose Issues

I just picked up a 95 Maxima. Its got the bose audio system which I want to keep for the time being. On the way home from getting the car the right channel would come on then go off randomly. Today it just stopped working. Both the RF and RR dont work at all. Ive checked to see if it was a speaker issue but im getting no sound after the amps. Not sure if i am getting signal before. I checked the connection behind the radio everything looks good. My guess is the head unit is bad?

I had a bad head unit in my 3rd gen that had "dead" speakers. Interesting pert was that it was different speakers depending on if I was playing a cd or the radio. A replacement head unit solved it.

When i got my max, my Bose would only work every so often...i took it out of the dash, took it all apart, blew the dust out of everything and whatnot, put it back together, and it works flawlessly now. Might give it a try..

Well, theres alot of things that can be wrong.

1. Your alternator could be going out, the speakers cut out before alot of other systems in the car.

2. Your Headunit is garbage.

3. Your Wiring is Bad.

The most likely of those 3 is the Headunit.

I have a 99 GLE and had the same problem a year ago and I read somewhere on this forum about bose repair. I had to take mine apart and replace most of the resistors on the display section to find out which one was bad and it's been working fine so far. Even fix the display problem I had. Question does all speakers work with CD Player or TAPE Deck? That's what made me realize that my unit was bad and not the speakers.

Same was with my display, but all resistors tested good...put it back together, turn car on...display works fine.
Weird, but i'm not complaining.

I have a feeling the alternator might be going. My voltage constantly jumps bewteen 13.7-14.5 at idle. At night you can see the headlights dimming. I didnt think an alternator that still produced that amount of voltage would have an affect on the radio but i guess its a possibility. Also it does it even if the cars not running so that might rule out the alternator causing it. I have an aftermarket radio lying around ill prob plug that in and see if the speakers turn on. If so then its time to find a Head unit.

if an after market works that doesnt mean the bose won't work with correct voltage.

You have eliminated one possibility.

So today i picked up a pathfinder bose headunit. My tape wasnt working anyway. The right speakers still do not work Im going to check for voltage at both amps now and see whats going on.

i feel like bose headunits r terrible in the maximas. i jus bought my maxima. n i think i needed a new faceplate to it cuz i had no display, it barely worked n was comin out of one speaker. whe i pushed on the faceplate n certain areas i cud get the display to show n music to come out of the other speakers. but screw those things i jus took it out n im workin on puttin in an alpine.
