This 98 Maxima was my mid life crisis present. It had to be 5 speed. I just cannot imagine this car with an automatic.

I love the 5 speed coupled with the 6 cylinder. In thirty years of being a gearhead < i 've never had more than 4 cylinders

I was looking for an econobox and I looked at Camry's , Accords and 626's

Then one day I saw a Maxima. I had to have the d___ thing. Can't imagine it without a 5 speed.

its a commuter for many, its not a tuner or performance car by any means so why wouldn't be suitable for many who drive a lot in the automatic form? its the perfect grocery getter/beater/commuter etc....... plenty of people out there dont want to sit in traffic with an MT but to each his own.

Had a 4th gen auto that i convereted 5 MT, bought my 5th gen in 5MT form from factory..... but thats just me.

This is the only statement you need for this thread really....it says everything about why you would want an auto along with the regular commute as the previous posts states.

fastest max in the world being an auto still has nothing to do with the joy of driving an M/T over A/T

That's subjective. I have a 5spd and I wouldn't buy an automatic car.

Reason why people have automatic cars, well there are a few.

A Maxima is not a race car, so most of them are sold as automatic, because people who don't drive race cars normally enjoy smoking/eating/reading/texting/jerking off while driving. (99%)

Also an automatic + suprastick trans controller makes for a fully controllable automatic which shifts with robotic consistency and speed thus creating ownage in the 1/4. (1%)

I have both automatic and manual transmission Maximas.... I love both for their own reasons. When I'm stuck in traffic getting my butt kicked by bumper to bumper I wish I had the a/t and then when there's a comparable car with a 5spd next to me being a douche, I say "damn I wish I had my 5spd to hand his *** to him" lol

I love both dearly regardless of their trans

Manual all day, but if I ever build a race only purpose maxima it will be the 4spd w/ a crazy high stall, custom gears and a suprastik

Back on topic.

Why auto? It's more reliable than our 5spds and very few of us actually care enough/actually use the differences in auto vs. manual in a MAXIMA. Most people here and in real life would much rather do what Moncef said.

Well, idk about that. I guess it depends on the person and how into a stick they really are. Take me for example, i used to own a '86 z31 5spd. I went to school down at ODU in Norfolk. There was traffic bumper to bumper all the time doing the usual rush hour times. I did it for 5 months straight. Not once did I think to myself, "man i wish i had an auto right about now." Sure it's convenient when sitting in traffic, but when the traffic is done, there's nothing like going through the gears as blow by the a**hole who cut you off an hour ago. But hey, I'm only speaking for me. "To each is own" you can say in this thread.

people who complain about sitting in traffic with MT are the types i never understand..

I live in los angeles, I have sat in bumper to bumper traffic for an hour here and there. Mind you, with an ACT extreme pressure plate clutch that feels like a brick wall, yet it still didnt bother me, a B&M short shifter went a long way but bottom line, I love driving a stick. if you know what u want and what you TRUELY love, nothing else will matter. it will over come all the cons !

1. I don't know how to drive a standard transmission (Or I can't drive it well enough to not roll back and hit the car in behind me in steep hills)

2. Seattle will drive you insane if you have a manual transmission.

3. I need to have one hand free to eat/drink/jerk off while I drive, just like what another member suggested above.

Seriously I have never seen so many light and so many hills in my life....................... I don't like Seattle

purley preference, there is a good reason for any car to be one vs the other

my buddie drives a little scion XA and swears by stick for it as he can tool around with 100hp and have control of it but he wouldnt get it in a larger car says it defeats the purpose.
the max is no different mine is auto i would love to drive a 5sp to try it out, but its my DD
i think if it was a project car or a little sporty coupe that was only for tooling around i would get a 5sp all day long.

in otherwords i would love the control but i am lazy i dont want it all the time sometimes i just want to run to the store never pushing her over 3k rpm other times i wish i had it because i dont want to beat the auto
ColombianMax has the best of both worlds!

5spd all the way baby!

Everyone has their preference, mine of course is the stick because I have total control of upshifting/downshifting... I have an Mazda 6 that has the slapstick auto, it's fun to drive but not as fun as the Manual Maxima.

lol thats funny.

Yo leo man, for some reason i thought u lived in MAss maybe i was thinkin of s1tech. idk

U either a MT or AT type of person. Ima MT type. When i look for a car i look for a stick. I love shifting gears. Thats jus me.

Like shyt, im on my second MT 4th gen, and knowing the reliablitity problems the MT has, I STILL wd buy the MT over the AT anyday

AT still cool in the Maxima tho. I drove an AT 4th gen, and that **** haul *** too.

Its all preference. If you want the feeling of a sporty car, you get the manual.

If you need a dd and your not inclined to shift on your own, you get an auto.

You really cant argue this statement because its all personal opinion.

Dont beat a dead horse.
