Recently I noticed little oil stains on my driveway and decided to have the car checked out. I just came back from Fergus Nissan, they said it was the Oil Pressure send unit. They replaced it under extended waranty +$50 for labor, etc. Is this a decent price and could it really have been the oil-presdure sending unit?

Dealers usually charge anywhere from $50-$75 per hour.

 

Was it likely that it solved the problem?

 

Does it leak?

 

they didn't say anything about whether it leaked or not but if it did the problem is likely fixed. just wanted to be sure, you know...

I also have this problem, amongst my many problems of this car. I read in the FAQs that the nissan OEM unit should be avoided, unless covered under warranty... Since my car is busted again I guess I could replace this guy too...

 

Yeah the oil pressure sending unit is problematic on 4th gens. Mine leaked at approx 22,000 miles and was replaced under warranty.

 

looking over the work order again, it does say that the sender unit was leaking...

oh, btw... i just put on my FSTB... WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

That was probably the culprit. I replaced mine at about 90K miles.

Had my sending unit replaced too.....

 

I had the same problem when I had a Camry, At about 75,000 miles, the unit went, well.....it BLEW up. I thought I blew the engine actually....pulled up to a stop light, and THICK white smoke started pouring from my car When the switch went, it sprayed oil allover the engine, which was hot from driving and damn near gave me a heartattack, it was about a 5 minutes repair job on that though, and the OPU was like 20.00....I dunno if it's that easy on the max though...mine hasn't gone yet.

 

I replaced mine last month. Cost me $50 with an oil change thrown in. Took them about 10 minutes.

 

I had the same problem and the dealer replaced the oil pressure sensing switch. However, the problem reoccurred. This time the dealer replaced the PCV unit. Apparently it was stuck. I did notice a big jump in gas milage after it was replaced, so I think that's it. I'm taking it in for a checkup this week.
