Ok so I'm like having the worst time ever trying to get my crank pully off. Am I correct when taking it off it's right to tighten and left to loosen? Or does the bolt have reverse threads on it??

Kinda off topic here... Why are you taking it off?

Why you wanna fool w/ the timing... beyond me... Anyways!

Not gonna get too deep into it... But if the pulley has never been removed... Ugh g/l....

Put the car in gear, and something on the driver's side to lock the wheel in place, then get the world's skinniest/longest breaker bar and good luck, that's off of the top of my head, I have a haynes somewhere just not near me ATM, if someone doesn't answer ya by sunday (which I'm sure you'll get one) i'll crack open the haynes and fsm for ya and copy/paste.

So back on to topic. Stripped 3 bolts holding on the flywheel so I'll be dealing with that tomorrow. Once thats off I'll start the process of grinding it down so I can weld the 2 together. Dremel for 3 hours doesn't really sound like that much fun lol

It doesnt mention the direction the bolt needs to be spun to remove. Engine is out so I used a 5 foot pipe and a half inch rench. Broke that, impact gun nothing, so whatever that's just my luck right now. Thanks for the info though

May be easier to you a die grinder...just a thought...

Even with a dremel is shouldnt take you 3 hours lol...more like 30 minutes i would assume...lol

We were talking about adding teeth to the 3.5 flywheel to match the 3.0 flywheel (timing ring).

yeah... right... you wish i paid that much attention to you.

basically, i ground out the rivets holding the auto timing ring on, removed that. then lined it up with what teeth were there on the 3.5 flywheel. shot around it with a can of white spray paint (just needed a way to mark where i was cutting without moving the other timing ring). then just used a dremel and cut teeth where the marks were.

(notice i marked the outside with a black marker and you can see the remnants of the spray paint.)

that's the 3 hours i mentioned. took like 10 to remove the rivets from the auto ring. pain in the *** but i'm cheap as hell. oh and broke too,

still works great 6 months later, btw.

check my post on page one

EDIT: fine... all 4spd auto, 5mt, 6mt axles are the same length and tooth count, only the driver side auto axle is SLIGHTLY longer.

EDIT 2.0: 5mt lsd has a different tooth count (afaik) on the driver's side but that's irrelevant to this thread, just an fyi.

GLEs don't have abs, at least not that i've seen, only some SEs. read the 6mt swap thread again. iirc, he said he disconnected the bracket holding the abs brain and zip tied it out of the way.

bolting is a pita with all the drilling and crap, but it served me well because i failed and used the altima mount instead of the maxima mount. had to change the angle a bit and do some moar ghettoing in regards to the mount itself

ok si i cut all the teeth out for the cps sensor to read. hopefully it reads correctly. now all i need to do is figure out where to mount the shifter. stock location seems too close to the center consol and the shifter would probably hit it. then again i havent hooked it up to the tranny yet so i really dont know how much play there will be

This may be a stupid idea, but is there any way that you could maybe cut and shorten to fit? Or is it too far UP as opposed to the rear of the car?

Goood luck!!! I hope it starts! That'll give me the motivation for me to hack up my Findanza.

It's a cable shifter, you can mount it on the roof if you want. You're using Maxima cables right? if so, you have enough length to move it back.

True but in order to move it back more I would have to cut the hole out more. Don't exactly wanna do that. I should be putting the tranny in Saturday so I'll mock everything up then and see how it fits.

One question I do have is now that I have the teeth done should I rebalance the flywheel?

Ok just put the tranny in and what a pain that was. Barley had enough room to get it in. I sure hope it all works because there is no way I can get this tranny back in there. Took me 2 hours. Oh well I'll update with pictures later

Depends.

Maxima tranny's $600+, if you are going to take it apart, if not... $900+

Sentra Tranny's $250+ (I paid $250+tax for mine, which was an extraordinary deal, they are usually $350+).

Good progress artist!!

ha yeah only took me 2 hours to get it in. if i ever had to do it again or if i have to take it out to fix the timing ring im gonna be taking a sludge hammer to that under body where its hella close. that will give you the most problem. also moving the abs up is gonna be a pain as well.

So 5spd 4th gen passenger axle is of course an inch short so idk I guess I'll just have to buy a hella expensive 6spd axle. Uh!!! I'm not happy
