The Back Seat Fold Down MOD!
#42
its too easy dude! glad someone else is taking the dive! and most definately a worthy ride of the upgrade! as for the hinges, you cant use the outer ones but the inside ones to the metal bracket are what hold up the seat. if you run into any problems just let us know! should be able to knock it out in an hour or so with an extra set of hands

I'm picking some I30 2000 rear seats to do the fold down mod in my 97 and was wondering if I need the rear metal bracket from the i30 to get this to work or can I use my existing 97 metal plate? Also I'm guessing the plastic trimming Is just to make it cleaner but not needed?
Any info will help guys.

The hole in the metal plate on the 97 is the same size as the the hole in the seat which is too small. Get the bracket from the 00, and might as well get all the fasteners just in case.
I've been thinking of doing this mod, I guess I just have to pull the parts and change it on a rainy day.
If you've never removed the rear seat, the bottom half is held on with pull tabs that are underneath the front of the cushion. The rest I think is just bolts.

I did a full leather swap from a '98 into my '99 including the door panel inserts for $150 from a junkyard. Are you buying private party or from a junkyard?
The dumb thing is I saw this thread before I got the seats and figured I didn't really need it. Well it would've been helpful several times since I did the swap a few months ago.
IIRC the back seat cushions were only $30. A 5th gen seat with a bracket and trim might fetch about $50.

What was it that you figured you didn't need?
