What headlights are you guys using with HIDs?
I know ideally projector headlights are the best for HIDs and that it's possible to retrofit projectors into the stock housings, but I honestly don't have the time or desire to do so.
I was looking at the one piece black housing headlights on ebay with HIDs like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-H...Q5fAccessories
Does anyone have these with HIDs? What do you think? Thanks in advance.

Those are my pick also... I really did prefer the Projectors but don't have the knowledge of the retro... I just want plug n play and these seem to be the best bet and legal from my understanding, seeing they were design for HID's and not just throwing HID's in the stock housing. I say go for it. I am....

The thing is, the pictures in the ebay auction show projector headlights with the HIDs. From my experience, using HIDS in halogen housings will result in scattered light without the cutoff you see with projectors.
I'm just curious what the light output looks like for HIDs in the ebay light housings.

Those are not projector headlights in the link you posted... I was assuming that these housings were design to point the light downward and not scatter it all over the place just as the projectors do... like in some other auto makers have done with there's... such as volvo, saab, lexus and others. they have designed there non projector OEM housing for HID's.
There is a post somewhere were someone used a volvo housing to remove the piece that controls the lights direction and place it in the 4th gen stock housing to control the light downward and straight forward. That the whole key to the HID's is to control the light downward and straight forward. Thats what I believe these housing are that you've posted. If I'm wrong then there will be returned....

Gotta love that $55 ground shipping charge.
The picture shows non-projector, but the generic (non-Maxima) background pic with blue light on has a projector.
It if includes 8,000K bulbs as the pic suggests, they will be too blue. Too blue for your vision, and too blue for the law in many states.

Idealy you want 6000k for the color and if you decied to just but a hid kit from eBay they need to have a shield on the bottom of the hid light. This allows the light to only reflect off the top of the inside and therefore not blind any of us while driving. Most hid kits don't have the shield and put light out everywhere in the housing producing blinding light bouncing off the bottom of the housing. Just look around for the correct lights that way you don't waste money.

I have bi-xenon HIDs in '97-'99 housings that are aimed a little lower and I also have eyelids. The glare isn't too bad (I used to get flashed the high beams from other drivers all the time before I re-aimed them and added eyelids).
Mine are 8000K but I've had them for a while so the color has washed out a little. See my sig for reference.

If I were you I'd check http://depoautolights.com/headlights...c1e1ff6127386f check under the infinti section and grab those a32 retrofitted ciefro headlights instead of buying these and having scattered light everywhere. Overall price difference is these eBay ones are about 240.00 for bad light output no cut off vs. The ciefro retrofitted which are 350.00( I know a little up there in price) but great quality and great cut off... just my .02.

In my area I always see the glare.i.d lights maybe once or twice, then after that they disappear. If you can get reflectors out of a stock hid reflector car you can retrofit those too, the beam pattern would be much better without projectors.

Hmmm
I tell you what...
You go ahead and Buy those R34 Headlights...
Then go to my website, and purchase some Projectors of your choice.. (I recommend the FX-R or the TSX Projectors.
(i only carry projectors from Matt at The Retrofit Source..) Also buy some shrouds. I recommend the GTI-R Shrouds.
So you can CLICK HERE for the projectors
Then CLICK HERE for the GTI-R shrouds...
Then if your interested.. you can CLICK HERE for some HID kits i carry, i can give you a discount on them.
you can send your headlights to me and i can do a custom retrofit for you with the parts.
Either you can purchase them yourself and send them to me, or (cheaper) pay me to have it all shipped straight to my shop then i can ship them out to you once done.
Below are some pictures of my R34 Retrofitted with Infinity G35 Projectors.
The only thing is. My retro, I lost the high beams, cause I wasn't gonna use them anyway. Since my projectors i had were already Bi-Xenon.. so i just routed a separate switch inside my dash to turn my high beams on.
The Cutoff was good. but the Lenses on the G35 projector are flutted, so thats why i suggested getting the TSX or FXR projectors cause they have clear lens and AMAZING color flicker.
But if your interested, your can read more on my services HERE you might have to join my site to view it, you may not. i dunno
If your interested, let me know. Give me a call at (229) 289-0783 or email me at streetobsessions@gmail.com

I'm running 97-99 stock lights with FX35 retro and 4300k.
If you're going to get the single piece headlights, I HIGHLY recommend you do a retrofit or just stick to halogen bulbs. Here's why, compare my retro to my buddies side by side.

OMFG chris... are you that lazy? here you go http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-SL605-Bl...item2c579bd6a0

ChrisMan, that is pretty good for HIDs in a stock housing. For some reason, my stock halogen lights have a tiny bit if light that goes up above the blob of light just like yours. And I am using the standard 9004 bulbs.
But either way, they are too weak to blind anyone

I remember when I had these same HIDs in the stock '95-'96 housings and they were terrible , even with the re-aim. DO NOT PUT HIDs IN '95-'96 HOUSINGS or R34's.
#29
I'm guessing you haven't re-aimed them? And you're probably at stock ride height correct?

its cuz the beam is all over the place. its not straight and precises i always get other driver flashing their brights and giving me the finger. but then again i dont have projectors. im just saying the beams are strange with these housings. i get this weird really bright triangle right in the middle of my front end, and the sides are really bright but directly in front of the housing its not. i wish i had projectors but i love the way these look so to hell with the other drivers
#35
Thank you sir! You can see exactly how far up the light goes since the wall is white. It's not bad at all, when like you said standard 9004 bulbs glare just as much..

This is infowire's maxima on the left with the single piece lamps and 6000k vs mine on the right with FX35 retro / ebay 4300k hid kit. His lights are aimed all the way down and notice the transformers looking reflection on the wall above his max lol
