Trouble light assistance...

Ok, last time, I asked about a 98 max vs an 01 j30t. Well, the J30t was sold before I could get there...

The max, I drove tonight - and VERY impressed. The only problems I found were, apparently infamous side airbag causing the airbag light to flash, AND the ABS light is on. So I know about this one...

Now, the car JUST had a full brake job, and the light was on before, AND after service. The car stops GREAT... no issues there at all - so here's the BIG question :

I live in Texas, and so, first off, does anyone know if this light being on will fail a safety inspection, AND will an OBDII reader tell me what is wrong with this light?

I believe any light on the dash will make you fail a safety inspection. an OBD-II scanner cannot read ABS codes as there is a separate computer for that. If oyu want to retrieve the code, get the FSM from FallenOne's sig and look up the procedure or I can guide you through it. You will need a piece of wire to go from the CONSULT port to a metal part for grounding.

OK, well, the good news is that it WILL pass with the ABS light on - Texas does NOT fail for ABS light - as LONG as the brakes DO work - and boy, do they...

So, looks like on Monday, I'll be the owner of a gold 98 max gle, fully loaded...

And I will look up those steps, as I hate to have the light on, and WOULD like to know the cause - could be something stupid, like a dirty wheel speed sensor, or something...

and as long as it stops, i'm not worried...

Start with the relay for the ABS Actuator.

find out what code 63 means first. it will point you in the right direction before you replace anything or tear something apart.
