I have a 97 manual maxima. I need a new front motor mount that's on the cross member.the mount is torn. I can't find the mount anywhere will one from an automatic maxima work just fine? Again its the one on the cross member not on the tranny

What do you mean you can't find one? Do you mean they aren't in stock?

You could pull the mount off and use some 3M window weld urethane to repair/strengthen it beyond the stock mount level. Pretty simple process and only costs about $20 for the 3M tube.

Things just got even more messed up. Under the radiator where the two cross member bolts screw into is completely rusted to a point where the cross member its literally separated from the mounting position is that part replaceable

That is scary, I have a 97 and will check my crossmember in the morning....

You will find a lot of info here on rusted rad support/ replacements. Do not go for aftermarket parts, only oem as many members here will recomend due to insuffient quality/ thickness of the aftermarket parts.

One thing I read from another member here that might temporarily help you / if you want to avoid getting a new rad support is that his mecahanic drilled holes through the top and used long bolts to secure the cross memeber. Couldn't find the link but sounds like an easier temp job.

like stated .. this is pretty common for maximas.. it can cost you between 150 - 600 depending on what's possible and what option you choose..
for my max i decided to replace the radiarot nuts and bolts.. costed about 450-500 at maco.. if you rust is not too bad you can possibly get it welded for around 150 in nj (prices cheaper else where).

Referring to the picture below, if I swap this entire unit will this procedure require welding?
I am not going to purchase the cheap ebay piece, this is only for example display. In case I come across one in really good condition at a local junk yard. I know that sounds like wishful thinking but I'm going to look around first, the junk yards near my area have excellent pricing.

If you purchase the entire piece, upper support or lower support separately, it WILL still require welding. Looking from your pic there, it looks like someone already replaced it with a cheap aftermarket one and you are stuck with it. Go to the dealership or contact DAVEB on the forums here and get an OEM one..go anywhere else and you will be doing this job again in 3 months..

so its fixed, i bought the steel for $10 and the job costs $100. The mechanic that welded the new steel on also welded new bolts so I can remove the cross member. I have one question though... how difficult is it to change the front motor mount. Mine is destroyed, is it possible to change it with out removing the entire cross member?

im replacing my whole radiator core support right now on the busted maxima i posted in the pics thread. i found an oem one at a junkyard for 50 bucks in the full service yard.

so i didnt know where else to post this because my main question is about the core support. i rear ended a truck recently. not going very fast at all, but it screwed my lights, grill, hood, and bent a fender. also the bumper filler/retainer. the main thing is that it bent the top half of the core support, and ive seen the tutorials on the bottom half, but how much more difficult is it to do the top half? i have an oe core support on the way and know a couple of pro welders/body guys. is it enough effort to warrant me just replacing top and bottom while im at it? i live in georgia and the bottom half has no rust.

Just replace the one that's damaged. The top Support needs both fenders to be removed and you have to drill out the welds. Not fun and again if its not damaged don't bother.

thanks a lot. not looking forward to drilling out welds. would it be wiser to just have a welder remove it and put the new top support in and not deal with it?
