water leaking through the sunroof

I live in Richmond, Va and its been raining for the past few days. I left my car out on the street overnight and I realized that one side of the sunroof is leaking water but the other side is not. Here is a picture of the left and right.

What can be the possible reasons and how can I fix this problem. Thanks.

Can you see a gap between the glass (rubber around glass) and the roof? From the outside of the car.

There is an excellent post on servicing the sunroof. This includes removing the electrical and liner. If there are no visible gaps, try flashlight at night trick, there could be blocked drain holes in the mechanism.

Let us know what you find.

Check drainhose on that side. Get some microfiber towels and get that moisture outta the headliner before it stains too.

I second that on the drain hose. That fixed the problem for me.

clogged drain hoses are a common culprits.
sometimes the sunroof frame cracks/splits, could be temperarely fixed up with JBWeld. If its in the front of the sunroof, then open sunroof glass all the way and check out the drain hoses and look for any visible cracks in the plastic frame.

Had the same problem with the same location of leak. Drain hoses worked fine and it only was noticeable with harder rains.

Anyway, I used clear silicone and made a bead around where the rubber meets the glass. Make sure to get it under the rubber to get a good seal.

Havent had the problem since. A full rebuild would be better though

Thought I would join the newb with an old post bump

There are 4 drains - front and back on each side. Open the sunroof and pour some water in the four corners. Water should drain out around each mudflap. If you dont see any water, the hose has separated.

Forgot to mention that it is not that hard of a job to do. The hardest part will be not to break any of the plastic pieces. I broke my the clip that holds in my visor. Now it hits me in the head everytime I make a right!

Good luck.

I am now seeing this problem on my GLE where the glass meets thr rubber. Silicone is the only way to fix this problem or does the rebuild include resealing the glass as well?

Hey NHMAX603. How did you shim the glass? I'm having the same problem. It seems like the glass is not closing complete.

My sunroof is also leaking on the driver side of 95 Maxima. I pulled the A pillar and found the drain hose was unplugged. Now it's not leaking anymore. However, on the outside of the sunroof towards the middle rear, there's a good half an inch of rubber moulding missing. Is it suppose to be this way? Can someone confirm this for me? Thanks

Mine has a space there but certainly not as much as half an inch. Its less than quarter of an inch.

If this is the thread/site that shows the guys who serviced the sunroof, it aint that great of write up.

http://www.vqpower.com/v2/articles.php?article_id=43

I want to know what is in that sunroof service kit from Clay Nissan. They don't show any pictures.

The forum would be more efficient this way. Everything would be on topic with the same subject. You wouldn't want 10 people posting 10 different threads on the same issue.
