Stock auto tranny power capabilities
This has probably already been asked.. but I searched and searched and could not find anything, so here goes:
What are the power capabilities of a stock automatic transmission? (in my case '97 flavour)
With all the mods available like an 00vi, headers, y-pipe and and other fun stuff and seeing how I will be doing most of them (if not all) I was wondering how much HP can a stock tranny handle?
I know a guy I used to work with had his '01 Honda Accord up to ~250 hp and he said he could not floor it else the tranny would just die right then and there.

They aren't very durable and need upgrades to handle SC and Turbo applications. I've been fortunate tho, I added a 24000 pound tranny cooler when I had about 100K on the car and it's been fine with the beatings i've put on my car over the years. I have over 300k on the tranny and it's still shifting good, not as smooth as it used to be but it hasn't failed me yet.

Here's what I would do.
1. install trans cooler (with temp guage so you know when you can push it)
2. install dr mod switch http://www.jimesmaxima.com/DR%20Mod.html
3. install suprastick http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...r-4th-gen.html
I've seen people on here with 500hp with the stock automatic. In the end in comes down to you. You need to know what you're doing with it. Just start reading...
