very very soft thunk after stopping

car starts and runs well. when you stop and let the engine idle in gear for over a minute you get a single very very soft thunk or clunk that you feel rather than hear.
Can't if its a skip in the engine or what. sometimes it does not do it, otehr times it will repeat 10 seconds later maybe once.

Any idea what this could be. 99 I30 115k miles.

Auto or 5-speed? If auto I would gander it's the torque converter, but don't quote me on that.
