Advice on car stalling

Hey all

My max is stalling and intermittent times while the car is WARMED up. What usually happens is that once my car has been driven for a while, I will approach a stoplight, apply the brake, and start watching the rpm needle. After a second or so, the car begins to roughly idle ranging the rpm needle from 500-800 rpm. If I release the brake and don't hit the gas the car wants to stall the most at this point. The car will not stall if i throw it in neutral as the rpms jump to a consistent 1000 rpm. After i put it back in drive, the car still wants to die, although applying gas and getting the car moving eliminates the threat of the car stalling. Another important point is that when the car is put in reverse and release the brake without applying gas the car really wants to stall there too.

I have cleaned maf, tb, iacv, have a new filter, no leaks in intake, just replaced ECTS.

I'm thinking it is something with the fuel as that is almost the only thing I haven't touched yet.

did you check/clean the throttle position sensor (TPS)? also, are you getting any codes in the ECU?

Wow. I honestly have no idea what to tell you. Except what Dennis mentioned. I would maybe try some octane booster?

I had a similar problem. I changed my plugs (Autolites) to NGKs, and it went away.

simply cleaning the MAF doesn't always work.

i had the same problem and tried to prolong the situation and clean it.
but after a few times, it just stayed the same.

replace it.

Hey bnrz, if you dont mind me asking, since you said you had to change your MAF, I'm currently trying to replace the maf for my 4th gen. I tried to remove the 4 screws where the connector was and tugged but it seemed very reluctant to come out. Did you have to replace the whole housing or did you just pop out the part with the connector?

I was able to get my hands on some maf sensors from a 5th gen maxima and some pathfinders, and I found somewhere that alot of nissan maf's for the VQ's could be interchanged. Should i just be able to remove the part with the connector and pop in another one?

Thanks

you want to replace the whole thing. you'll have to unscrew it from the airbox and the other plastic housing. it's been a while since i tried doing it.

let me actually go out to my car and look at it.

*edit*
so there is an air filter box that the MAF is connected to.
remove that.
-there are four clips. two of them closest to the fender. one on the opposite side and on offset clip under the MAF connections.
-there is also a screw next to the hose clamp that connects the MAF to the plastic doodad opposite the air filter box. dont drop that screw, it's a ***** to find if you're as unlucky as i am.

when you have the air filter box loose, there will be four bolts that connect the MAF to it. and a hose clamp on the other side. one of the bolts holds a bracket for the connector.
also, disconnect the wire harness thingy or what ever.

you should be able to wiggle the old one out and wiggle the new one in.
and putting it back together should come with knowing how to take it apart.
