ebay turbo kit...thoughts?

So I can't possibly see how this could be worth anything b/c last I checked most turbo kits worth having were 2-3k, but I saw this on ebay and wondered. Does anyone have any experience with a cheap turbo kit like this one?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_5186wt_939

If nothing else, hope this gives someone a good laugh.

Hey how i see it is...(someone has to try it). Not saying you should use your car as a test dummy, but most likely no one has used an ebay kit on here not sure.

but i've seen alot of knock brands gone good...for instance i've heard alot of bashin frm org members about the XTD clutches sayin "dnt trust brands tht you are not sure of" but yet one of the fastest 4th gens out there is using a XTD stage 3 clutch and doin pretty decent times in a 1/4 mile...

all im sayin is sumtimes its good 2 take risks, and sumtimes its best to be skeptic.
wit turbo's me personally Garrett is tha way 2 go =]] hope this helps abit

I suppose this would be a decent enough kit to get you up and running.

I've heard horror and success stories from these eBay kits. If I were to grab something like this, I'd get everything installed, run the eBay turbo, save up, and grab a nice, high-end turbo down the road.

The ad looks convincing, but there's nothing there that resembles a feedpipe or forward Y pipe to actually drive the exhaust side of the turbo.

Making forward y-pipes and feedpipes isn't difficult if you have someone that knows what they're doing.

At any rate, even if you ditch the turbo, say you spend another $400 having your exhaut fabbed into a turboback and a forward y and feedpipe made, and another $800-900 on an upgraded turbo, that's still only $1700 total.

The kit don't look too bad considering what it is and you can always upgrade components if your unhappy with them. Like stated already about the TC, set it up and upgrade when you get more money. Once you have everything installed/running and want to upgrade it will be real easy to change out the turbo. If your really worried about doing any damage to your engine then don't chance it and buy premium parts.

if you have the time to mod this up, tack weld etc...go for it. i'll say this SSAutochrome was frowned upon on the integra forums back in teh day..but at the end of the day..the only thing that was complained upon was the welds on the exhaust manifold..when this was found out, they had it rewelded before install and no one had any issues, other than 'normal' issues from running a turbo

I can say EBAY kits are the shiz! I had one on my b16 Crx for 2 years and NEVER had a problem out of it. I also had several friends that purchased them for single cam motors and never had problems. Now for Nissans I cant say, but like I said I never had a problem with ones that I have seen.

Even though this kit seems cheap, the price for this, plus upgraded parts is still far more feasible to me than the SFR kit.

Granted SFR gives you everything you need. I just can't justify a $5,000 turbo setup on a car that's worth less than the turbo kit.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing SFR by any means. The fact that they did the R&D to perfect a kit for our cars is great. I just can't see spending the money.

Besides, I'd rather build my own turbo setup. It's fun to experiment and find the setup that makes you happy, instead of paying for someone else to do it for you. But that's just me.

There's also the bragging rights...

"Yeah, I built it all myself."
