It's a short ram, Not a CAI.

Also, the filter is foam. You could look up the pro/con vs paper or oil if you want.

It's mostly for sound, and for my money the Weapon-R secret weapon sounds a lot nicer.

Pretty sure you can get it off CustomMaxima for cheaper

ya, i knew it was short ram. i didnt know even with all the threads on this allready if it was ok to put on a high mileage max. and, of course i dont want to spend that kind of $$$$ on this until im sure i got the right set up for the ride. not looking to make max any louder, just want to help performace a bit.

Too much moneyz, look for any SRI piping and buy a well known/good cone filter if you're looking for the sound and easy maintenance.

FWIW I'm less than 30k behind you in mileage.

Ah well, In your OP you said something about CAI. Was just making sure.

Regardless of what brand SRI you buy, it WILL be louder, and depending on which posts you read, will either perform worse or have negligible gains over the stock setup. (Quick search will reveal the great debate)

Do not spend that much money for an intake. You're better off getting something like this and as stated above, get a good filter.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995-...item33621b4ae7
(and that is a picture of my car, w/o permission)

Age probably won't matter. It's not going to give much power gain, only a great sound.

Build your own...much cheaper.

MAF adapter from eBay ($10-15)
4" in length Aluminum pipe ($7-12)
AEM Dryflow filter ($45)
Various clamps ($5)

All-in-all, you're looking at around $80 to get a nice setup. You don't even have to get the Dryflow if you're wanting to save money. I just suggested it because it can help prevent fouling your MAF.

If you're looking for more performance gains, and a little quieter sound, grab a velocity stack. Blox sells them for around $20. The velocity stack actually made my intake quieter. It doesn't whistle under load like it did with just a filter in place.

That's what you need, you won't lose any low end with a true CAI. I have the same and love it.

does the bypass cover your talking about take away any of the noise from the intake or is it virtually unoticable and just protects the intake from water?

The entire stock intake is removed. CAI goes under the fuse box into the fender. Filter sits behind where your foglight would be, in front of the fender splash shield.

that wouldnt be good, my splash guard on that side of the car has been missing for years. lol, guess i need 1 of those too. is that the best set up, or is there easier more effective ways for install?

does this mean you have to completely remove your foglights? also can you install it without taking any of the body off of the car? not trying to jack the OP's thread just felt that it wasnt necassary to create a new thread for this question

Bypass cover?

You mean the velocity stack?

No, it sits between the intake piping and the filter. It's designed to provide more gains by smoothing out the airflow as it enters the intake.

It sort of looks like the end of a trumpet.

^ That's the VS.

And that's the theory behind it.

It's not actually designed to reduce noise. It just happens as a result of there being less turbulent air in the intake.

With a true cold air intake, you'll have to cut a ~3" hole next to your battery tray. Not too hard, but a little scary making a permanent cut. There's a template around for guidance. You'll need to remove the battery, battery tray, temporarily move the fuse box out of the way, and make room for drilling the hole.

You won't have to remove you foglight to install, but you will need to remove splash shield under the driver's side bumper (one screw and a 10mm? bolt), and the bumper lenses to see what you're doing. Some people may have removed wheel well lining instead.

Is there any way to keep the filter sort of flush up top with the engine so you don't have to remove anything or cut. Or do I just have to suck it up and cut the hole for it?

Sound preference is sooo subjective.

Get that and a respectable filter and call it a day, I personally don't take stock in an intake that requires 3ft+ of tubing, but that's just my personal feeling towards it.

I paid $20 for my Bomz SRI from ebay awhile back, I doubt you'd find a better deal than what i paid for.

I just baught that setup for $5 less:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360313955954&ssPageNam e=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

It's the exact same setup sold by the same seller for only $39.99

To prevent hydrolocking what bypass valve should I add to this 3" setup?

Yea Ive been lagging. Till now, for me it's been only strick up keep and what needs to be done on Maxi and Now that she's running nice i'm ready for mods. Anyway...

I took off the snorkel and there was a sensor near the end of it in a hole with a gromit. I put it on the MAF adapter between the filter and MAF.
My question, is that the IATS and is it ok where I put it.
Thanks for any help sorry to jack this but I can't start one yet

Searching around myself wondering the same thing, I've found people just tie it up somewhere near the intake. Seemed to not really matter

A K&N filter in the stock air box works good, those short ram air intakes w/cone filters don't really do anything but make noise. Unless your gonna fab up your own CAI just use a K&N filter in stock box.

For sure its just for the sound, at least for me and if you take it easy on the gas then its as quiet as a whistle up to 3500rpm. i like the sleeper. im sure ill get annoyed with it sooner or later but its a start for me and i still have all the stock set up.

this is how it sounds on the road...i like it

Something about the VQ sound with a CAI/SRI and headers, testpipe and stock catback at WOT is just... to me.

It's addicting. Even my buddy who's a Honda fanatic told me he loved the sound of the VQ from inside the cabin when we went for a drive.
