Weird RPM Needle Problem

FYI I have a 97 with a analog cluster. So i noticed Sunday my RPM needle wasn't moving. Did what any other person would do smack it a few times. THe needle jumped up but still wasnt moving. Today i noticed that it was jumping up and down trying to grab my RPMs. At, one point it was actually working. So i'm assuming the RPM needle is effed right?>

Yea thats sounds about right. Grab a cluster from a junkyard its very easy to swap out the tach so you dont have to change the mileage or anything. Just takes 3 screws on the back!

I've had tach problems when I was having charging system problems and the battery was about to die.

Wow that's crazy I was having charging system problems... Voltge was reading 11.6 when driving and a loud sqeaking coming from my belts. Don't know if it's my alternator replaced it less then a year ago. Gonna try tighten my pulleys see if that helps. Also gotta replace my belts.

Nealoc what did you end up doing changing your alternator?

You know thats illigal, right? Between DMV and Insurance its gonna look like your trying to cheat them, or when you go to sell. I think you can go to DMV and fill out paperwork to make it legal. I wouldn't brag about having low miles odom on a high mileage car, not really impressive.
