Something in my tranny just broke...5MT
Ok, everything was going fine. I go to throw the car into neutral, and it has a hard time coming out of 5th gear. So i try some more and it finally comes out, but it wont go back into any gear. So i pull over on the side of the highway. Clutch still has pressure, the slave cylinder is still pushing on the fork. The car WILL go into any gear with the car off, but with the car on it will NOT. I tried bleeding it on the side of the road, didnt work. Last month all of my clutch fluid leaked out somehow and i was forced to bleed it on the side of the road one night, and everything was back to normal. Its been ok since August.
In an attempt to make it home tonight i started the car in gear and as soon as i turn the key the car moves forward. So i guess its stuck engaged. I made it home by starting the car in gear (three seperate times) and clutchless shifting all the way home. but im certain that ive probably destroyed some more stuff cuz starting the car in gear makes a horrifying sound, and by the time i reached my destination the clutch pedal was vibrating like hell. Any idea what the initial problem was? Throwout bearing? clutch fork? It just went with no warning whatsoever. Any ideas as to whats jacked up now? If im going in there i might as well get my clutch upgrade like ive been wanting. You think theres any possible transmission damage? Maybe the splines on the shaft? im hoping i can get away with just getting a new clutch set (or tob), probably a slave cylinder too and clutch line while im at it. I'll take it apart in the next few days if i have time but id just like some ideas on what to look out for...thanks guys.

IMO, sounds like your tranny is fine. Clutch disc is completely destroyed. The reason you still feel pressure it that the pressure plate and hydraulic system is independent of the disc. Drop tranny>replace clutch set>install tranny>resume driving. Have fun!
I'd take it apart and report your findings. If nothing looks out of the ordinary once you get the transmission, pressure plate, clutch disc, flywheel, etc off, then I would start to investigate furthermore into the transmission.
If you are still worried about the transmission though, check the differential bearings when you have it out as well as the input shaft for play. And if you really wanna go all out, crack it open and have a look see inside.
Hope this helps, good luck man.

So clutch you guys think? I just dont get how it went without any warning. Then again ive had a clutch wear out (slip) but never just go away suddenly so idk if there are warning signs anyways. Its an Exedy OEM that i put in less than 4 years ago, no slipping ever. Still grabs hard. When you guys say the clutch is gone, you mean like shattered? or what? I know now its probably screwed up now after last night's toughest drive ever lol. Stage 2 here i come...
pull everything off first and see what you're working with...when my transmission went i purchased all clutch/flywheel upgrades adn come to find out that it was my transmission that went and i had to spend an extra $500 for a transmission. BUT there was always warning signs...when teh clutch went in my integra, it was getting harder and harder to shift into gears until i left my sisters (3 hours from home) come to realize that the clutch was completely toast and that when i HAD to shift gears it was hell getting it to go in.
when teh transmission went in my max, it was hard to put into gears, but i also had the warning sign of a whine in my 'roaring noise' that i had in my trans when i took my foot off the clutch pedal...so, with all that said..pull off the transmission first...

from my experience working in shops, what usually happens is the springs in the disc hub frag and imbed in the frictioin material. Even with the pedal depressed there is not enough room for all the garbage, and it drags. Ive seen TO forks break inside the bellhousing too, so it looks good from the outside, but the fork doesnt move the TO bearing.
This happened to me twice on my B5 S4 (POS cars btw). Had the EXACT same symptoms as you are describing. Both times a finger snapped off the pressure plate which prevented the clutch from disengaging.
End result, had to drop the trans and replace the clutch. What's strange is it happened again, about a year later. When we took it out, the actual disc still looked brand new but the pressure plate had failed again. Not sure what could have caused it (pretty much drove the thing like a grandma always in fear of something breaking), but it was suggested I also replace the motor and transmission mounts while in there. If you haven't already, you should probably consider replacing your mounts since they are probably worn to hell anyway.

this is clearly a clutch problem (or clutch hydraulic system problem) not a transmission problem. your clutch is obviously not disengaging for whatever reason. you said yourself that even with the clutch pressed in to start the car the car moves, and also that the only way to shift it is by clutchless shifting...

well, got the new clutch in. this was one problem. the other was that the clips on the tob snapped off, so the fork and tob werent together anymore. i assume that happened first, then the clutch disk got jacked up on the way home. either way, job complete. i got a stage 3 6 puck clutch, i definitely need to get used to this thing. it chatters quite a bit too on take off, but that could be just me having problems with it so far. its just really grippy.
btw, SS clutch lines are a biatch to install with abs in the way!!
dang really? i thought thats the one i ordered, and it is quite a bit longer...maybe its suppose to go all the way to the mc? lol, i kinda mocked it up and it would definitely reach but it wouldve been a straight shot, so i figured it went to the little box. plus theres another hard line with a bleeder by the strut tower, if i went to the mc it wouldve eliminated that completely...so idk.
yeah i dont have any of that hardline stuff since i had to remove my bracket holding up the abs unit for my 6speed tranny. i thought about keeping my box but just thought one continious line would be better.
Does anyone know the purpose of that wierd clutch line arrangement thru the little box?? I've had several cars with hydralic clutches and all the others had one straight line from the master to the slave.
