I had a 00' Sentra Se 2.0 5spd and really enjoyed it but being nissans small entry level car, it had it's short comings. I'm sure the spec-v handles great but it's still going to have bargain basement interior and most likely get around like crap in the snow(main reason I got rid of my SE 2.0). It is definately a preference thing as mileage is comparable and both should be basically reliable, I'd think any of the 2.5's that were going to have issues would have by now? If it is truely a minor repair it's needing and you want the smaller car, it's a neat one to have.

Me...these days I'd keep the maxima. Nicer ride, still handles and goes very well, and overall just a nicer well rounded car IMO.....plus the VQ is awesome

2002 with engine problems usually means a rebuild due to all of the above mentioned issues (cat paticulates sucked into engine and scoring cylinders, possible butterfly issues, counter balancer in oil pan breaking)

Obviously during the rebuild you replace the current exhaust with headers, the counter balance with a JWT counter balance replacement and lock down those butterfly screws.

Then you'll have a solid motor in a Sentra...

Personally, I'd keep the Max and spend money on it but YMMV.

I would keep the max because it seems like the sentra will have more problems.

rust is one thing that I can't stand. On the other hand, keep the maxima and offer him like 500 dollars for it. He knows you can fix it, but he probably can't afford to do that himself (why he is wanting to trade). Mechanics around here flip cars all the time that way. Just a thought..

$500?! what a joke!!! might as well kick him in the nuts too!

It was really nice. fresh red paint, no rust, everything alright mechanically except it needs a head gasket(rebuilt a QR in school) and tires.

Didn't mean to offend you.

Just going by what sells around this area. I don't know what your cold weather state is like, but 02 specV's sell for 3000-4000 all day around here with less miles than that. I know of an 04 with 89000 miles perfect condition that just sold for 3200. My friend picked up an 02 with 111,000 miles from an auction for 1700 and other than a dent in the door, it was perfect.

our salvage yards only give 2-400 dollars for most cars in this area. People who don't want to drop an engine in them sell them to the junk yards or on craigslist for a few hundred more.

To each his own....
