I have a 99 SE 5speed and 98 i30t auto, here's a little something im not sure many people know...

Yes its true that Injen is not a TRUE CAI, but, a very simple adjustment definately gives it SOME cold air. All you have to do is remove that black plastic intake piece that is located under the battery, then twist the bottom pipe all the way to the right so it sits under the battery. This does 2 things: 1 keeps it away from the radiator system, and 2, the opening in the bumper rams the oncoming cool wind straight to the filter so it gives it some nice breezy air to suck up.

But yeah i agree FWI is true cold air, but i already purchased Injen before i joined the org. I felt better acceleration in both the auto and 5spd. And there are some cheap generic Injen style intakes on ebay if you cant find a fender wall intake.

Does it sound louder since the opening of the intake is technically out of the engine bay?

All of the set-ups are relatively the same and here shortly we should have some dyno result to back this claim up. The Injen looks bad as sheit most people hate on it because they cant afford it. I have a modified SRI and its purely for looks and sound. If I wanted the best intake for my car I would go back to stock. With the stock set-up the airflow is smooth and eliminates most of the hot air a SRI introduces

I dont understand how stock would be the best. It doesnt seem physically possible. How is the air-flow smooth if it has a whole bunch of twists and turns and obsticles?

The reason stock feels more powerful for you is because youre running a SRI... when i had a SRI i actually lost power because the super-hot air totally robs power to the point that stock is more powerful.

Injen style and fender-wall are the way to go. If you are running an Injen style just twist the pipe so its sitting under the battery and youll get plenty of cold air thru the bumper vents.

And if you really are only using an intake for looks and sound then you might as well get an Injen style or fender-wall because they look better and sound ALOT better (+louder).

99maxisback, how does the 20" rims fit & does it rub when you dip with weight in the back seat?
Chrisman, where did you get the projector headlights? I've been looking for a long time.

Almost any auto store will have it or you can google it and there will be several to choose from, but make sure to vent the rear if you're venting the front to avoid unmetered air.

to the org.
