Serpentine Belts & Water Pumps...
I am getting my serpentine belt replaced on my 95SE real soon. The car has 72K miles. Does the water pump need to be replaced because "it is right there and it would be cheaper in labor to do it all together"? Has anyone done this maintenance recently? How long does the water pump last?
Any help would be great!

No, you don't have to change the water pump with the serpentine belt. Usually that recomendation is made when changing the timing belt, which requires opening up the side of the engine and removing the water pump. But 4th gens+ do not have timing belts, so this does not apply.
In fact, I just had my two belts changed today. Parts cost $20 total.

I agree, you don't need to replace your waterpump until it fails. Usual signs such as leaking and or high pitched bearing sounds. I would suggest more frequent antifreeze changes/distill water/Redline's water wetter (coolant additive). You can pick up Water wetter from Pepboys, and the antifreeze for no money at walmart. 96se 156,000 plus, original water pump. Do inpections of the drive belts every so often.
