My Swap/Rebuild thread

Well not really mine but Im doing most of the work. My girl wanted me to do a progress thread for her car since shes to lazy and nobody knows who she is on here lol. As most of you know we pretty much put her car back togther after her accident in february http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...-v-2010-a.html. In octoboer the radiator support rusted completed off. It happened on the way from the track the day she ran her PB. I took a backroad and hit the biggest pothole you can imagine and the 2 front bolts broke apart. We already knew it was hanging on by a thread and it was going to happen eventually so we werent to surprised. I asked her what she wanted to do and after weeks of going back and forth she decided to look for another max. Main reason was because it still had the body damage in the back from the accident and her trunk didnt latch any more. Fixing that plus the radiator support would have been more than buying a new car. We searched craigslist and local classifieds and couldnt find anything. My freind told me about a local auction that he goes to so we went up there one saturday and found another 97 for 650. It had front end damage but we could easily swap everything over since it was the exact same color lol. She swapped the whole interior herself and I did most of the exterior. It just passed inspection friday and we are going to wait until we go through emissions before we drop the 3.5 back in. In the mean time I am tearing down the motor to replace the cam tentioners since they are ticking and she bought new toys that I have to install. So I think thats it. On to the pics!

All done(not installing the springs till Spring):

The engine(took 3.5 hours to pull it out):

The new Toy:

I'll most likely have the Emanage in before the 3.5 is in just so I can have some time to play around with it. Her goal is 12's N/A next season then going RMT. She's been taking up all my time and my car is still sitting SMH.

You have the "new" car's front end all torn down yet you didn't repair the clearly rotted front rad. support?

Seems your back to square one again, minus the damage in the rear.

Yeah the short answer to this is that we were on a very short time frame to get everything swapped over and to get it through inspection and emmisions. Also its not THAT bad and will hold up for a while. We are planning on repairing it when we pull the motor. I think shes more glad that her trunk actually works more than anything.

Not to be a buzz kill, but I think I would be worried about all the oil leaks before playing with the e-manage. But thats me. I hate a car leaking any fluids!

But anyway, Nice progress!

Of course the leaks will be fixed before the engine goes back in.

Cool thanks man. I could definatly use a hand. Alan has been busy with other things and her work schedule sucks so its just me most of the time. Maybe after working on the 3.5 you'll see how easy it is and do one of your cars lol.

LOL I havent touched the engine in a few days but I'll let yall know when I start working on it again. I havent even taken the timing covers off yet.

If Jason figures out what's going on with the NEO let me know in case I have to mess with one again.

Yes we are draggin our feet on this but we recently got some motivation to get working on this again. Ever since we did the swap we had a very annoying ticking noise that sounded like rod knock but I was pretty sure it wasnt and just blamed it on a cam tensioner. Turns out it was the cam guide. The bolts were on the verge of falling out. Look out for a couple more live working sessions as we tear down the engine. I was going to do one sunday but it was around 12am when we were working on it.

are you putting the cams in her car? If so remember to check your valve lash after you do. I had to swap lifters around, and buy a few new lifters to get everything in spec. Just a little something I thought I would throw out there.

Bump. I'm sure nobody cares or even remembers this thread but I figured I'd update it. I got rid of the max in post #2 and bought 2 more gold 4th gens. One is a parts car now and the other my wife's DD. The 3.5 is in storage with the cams installed. Just need to drop it in one weekend. Here's a pic of the newest max and the cams.

I was gonna say that engine looks exactly like mine with the oil on the alternator and compressor.
