do test-pipes free up power?

sup org,

ok, so i have talked to many on this. i have mixed results every time. i hear that the factory cat that is installed on our cars is a high flow cat and is a wast of money to replace. the test pie will not free up any power and the car is engineered with it so why remove it. is any of this true? is the restriction engineered? i would hate to spent the money on a test pipe to loose power and of course pollute. i dont exactly have a dyno nor access to one. ant input would be greatly appreciated.
thanks org

Why spend the money?
I dont see why many opt for a hi flow cat when a straight pipe will only yeild 1-2whp at the most on an NA vehicle. I dont see how a hi flow cat can be less restrictive then a straight pipe and give better gains.
I even asked Brian about this in regards to his fast cat and he didnt have much to offer.
Maybe if the OEM cat was defective.....maybe.

so.. what is an easy way to check if your cat is indeed faulty? would you just put your hand by the exhaust and feel for back pressure?

if you had a clogged cat, you'd know. you'd have codes all day. deleting the cat on a street car makes your car smell like **** and is pretty ricey. its like intake spacers or front mount intakes

The length increase in the runners coupled with the lack of heatsoak will help. Its proven itself many times.

Yea, if you have a clogged cat you would get a rotten egg smell. I have no cat but a big *** resontator to keep the noise down
