Which oil filter to use .....

Ok I DID check the damn sticky and I noticed that the Bosch premium or the Mobil 1 filters seem to be of a better quality and have better bypass valves.

During startups my car makes a grinding noise for a couple of seconds and from what I understand oil pressure at cold startups had something to do with that. Also from what people tell me a good filter will eliminate that problem.
Can someone please explain to me how the filter is going to help the situation and which oil filter should I get.

Also what viscosity oil do you guys use.
Thanx in advance.

Nissan OEM filter. Costs $5 from the dealer. Cheaper and better quality than most filters out there.

The neat thing is that recently Nissan began to include a copper gasket with all their OEM filters.

Where is the noise coming from? I doubt a grinding type noise has anything to do directly with your oil filter unless it was installed incorrectly or something. I didn't know oil filters had bypass valves... The Nissan OEM filter is a great quality filter for the price. I use 10W30 oil here on the left coast.

Check out amsoil oil filters at www.amsoil.com, should you decide to go with amsoil you would have to order it. Otherwise the next best would be Mobil/Bosch, good luck!

Since few actually care to look at the posts at the top of the forum, as indicated here:

NTPOG Oil Filter Study:

Since few are apparently able to read this thread titled 4th Gen Maxima Maintenance Items here:

When should I replace it?

Generally, oil filters should be changed when the oil is changed. If extended drain intervals are being used, consider a 6-month or half the expected drain interval for replacing the filter.

Note:You may want to get a new OEM Oil Drain Plug and Washer when changing your oil as well:

Part Information:

Oil Drain Plug
Part Number:11128-01M05
Cost: about $2 at any Nissan dealer

Oil Drain Plug Washer
Part Number:11026-01M02
Cost: about $1 at any Nissan dealer

Yea I checked that before I posted and it didnt answer my question ... thus my need to post on this topic. The mopar comparison links dont work and and the NTPOG seems to be for hondas and as I said earlier from this I could see that Bosch and Mobil 1 and yes I got the part numbers for the mobil 1 filter and the drain plugs and washer from the maintainence thread.

My question was how does oil pressure affect that cold startup noise. I think it has something to do with better filters not letting the oil drain down into the pan when the car is not started for long periods.

Dude u need to calm ur a$$ down.

Why did it not answer your question? If parts aren't highly recommended, it doesn't go in that thread.

The filter comparisons let you know who makes the better filter through its filtration performance. It should apply to all automotive applications. It doesn't matter what motor it's hooked up to.....

My question was how does oil pressure affect that cold startup noise. I think it has something to do with better filters not letting the oil drain down into the pan when the car is not started for long periods.

That's called an anti-drainback valve which all the filters mentioned in the thread have. It doesn't matter which one you choose: that is according to preference and budget.

You should stop trying to ice skate uphill. All the work has been done for you. There's no need to re-invent the wheel.
