Easy RWD Idea

Pathfinder 3.5+MT+strait axle configured to bolt into stock mount points with an old school pan-hard bar. A two piece drive line with a support bearing at the radius arm pivot center line.

Imagine drifting or drag racing RWD. Improved ET due to optimum weight transfer and cheaper LSD/locker/spool options.

I don't see anything major standing in the way.The only real draw back I see is jacking from torque loading the radius arms.

If I had a spare Max and a little pick 'n pull money I'd be all over it.

gl with the idea. i've already got this solved in my head, just no project money either. can't really say it'd be worth more than bragging rights for me though.

it would be good to look at MaxxKid's RB26 4th gen thread, he had it converted to RWD and the full RB26 in, just the wiring got screwed up by someone so hes redoing it

Where is the gas tank going to go...I takes up a decent amount of room near the rear beam. Unless you wanna run a lil fuel cell in the trunk.

maxkid swapped in a whole other animal for a motor, as well as IRS, both a major PITA. It seems to me that a RWD VQ and straight axle would make the swap easier.

I don't want another car, and honestly I don't want to do this to mine. I just wanted to share my wonder that this simpler swap hasn't already been attempted.

but IIRC to RWD convert you need to relocate the gas tank which is a fire hazard if you dont do correctly

... get a fuel cell in the trunk... Trust me, the location of the gas tank is the LEAST of concern at this point in the game.

a vq35 rwd in the old 87 -89 maybe wagon form is more fesable rwd swap at this time...

AND THE MID-ENGINE teggy is still a mind blowing swap. but that is some serious fab work there.

That is what I was going to say. Or get a J30 if you still want a 4 door and swap something in that.

Make a custom tubular space frame, cut the body panels of the maxima off the unibody, mount them on the frame, any suspension you want, put the V6 transversely mounted behind the drivers seat driving the rear wheels.

Good luck!!!!

The better wieght transfer would help your E.T. and then the extra wieght and rotating mass from the rear axle would kill your E.T. I think with the same powerplant FWD is faster, unless going for the rear engine.

MG converted the Rover 75 to RWD and dropped in a modular 4.6 just for the hell of it. IIRC they didn't make very many ZT-260s, either.

That said, they had an engineering department and a development budget. "Easy RWD Ideas" for a Maxima begin and end with driving in reverse.
