a wierd tranny problem

this happens when the engine/tranny is cold. i shifted to 1 and left it there to see what would happen, and it upshifted once it got to around 4k! all this with the shifter still in 1. once the rpms came down, it downshifted. once the engine has warmed up this does not happen. Any ideas as to whats causing this?

This is simple math

Cold Engine & Transmission + High RPM's = BAD

Perhaps it's in the logic of the cars ECU to do what it did to protect the engine and trans.

Please don't perform this test again!

This may or may not be a stupid question but uh, does that mean that reving the engine on a cold morning to heat the car up is a bad thing?
Thanks ahead, Jules

Yes its a bad thing. But I still am wondering why it changed gears like that.... Is it really supposed to do that?

mine has yet to do that, the best way to warm a car is to drive it like normal(try not to exceed 3.5-4K). If you just leave it outside idling and cold, oil doesn't get to the cam lobes that well, thus inducig un-needed wear, this has been discussed here before though, so.........yeah
