Engine Hoist: Exhaust Studs?
Is it safe to lift a VQ engine from the exhaust studs? The chain kit I bought for the hoist mounts to 2 studs, 1 per side. I was probably going to add some rope around it to make it redundant.

There isn't holes on the back of the block? Find a hole on the back, and for the front use a accessory hole for the front. Just make sure you have it balanced. Don't have both hook on one side. Cross them.

Yeah I put the hoist chain on 1 stud on each side, then took some climbing rope and wrapped it around the bottom where the girdle is (there is no upper oil pan on it right now) and then through the top where the chain's loop is then around the "front" motor mount stud and back through the back of the engine stand's attachment arms to the bellhousing area. Put cardboard between the chain and the cylinder heads. I put 40 ft/lb on the stud nuts to secure the chain's hooks to it. Just gonna transport this thing to a shop in the back of a truck so I covered it in plastic bag + duct tape, going to put it on a old tire on top of a wood pallet and a cargo strap around that.
I think it should be okay now I hope.

When I just pulled my motor..I left the headers on and used climbing rope...rapped each header twice..and met in themiddle on top of the motor and just hooked the rope to the hoist and did that.....had no problems with that...but good luck.
