lose of power and rough idling.

I have a 96 max w/ 194k miles, having many problems with my car as it has very high miles, but i refuse to give up on my maxy! recently while i was driving my car lost power when i stepped on the throttle and my engine idles rough at times, as i accelerate my car sounds like a diesel truck, accelerates very slow, and my car shakes. Seems like my engine isnt getting enough fuel at times and is about the stall. what could be the problem? MAF sensor? dirty injectors? fuel pump? any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar problem VERY RECENTLY.. First off DO NOT JUMP TO COILS YET.. I know everybody on here screams coils but don't..

1st: Pull the hardest spark plug out (I pulled 2 easier ones and they looked fine, went on to check ohms on everything and waste time found out the hardest one to get to had never been changed)

2nd: Test the ohms on the coil packs (very easy to do) and the front 3 injectorsd (if the coil packs yield nothing) If you find nothing still do the load test (get a friend to put it in D and hold on the brake and pull 1 pack off at a time) If you pull a coil and there is no change that is the coil thats bad most likely.

IF you still have not found the culprit before you freak and start tearing **** off to get to the back 3 injectors check the primary oxygen sensors.

Of course at this point I dont know what to tell you if none of this solves it....

That happened when my spark plugs give up. I had coppers, and they'd go out around 10k or 12k ish.

10k miles for coppers? isnt it more like 30 k?

OP does it happen intermittantly while you accelerate or when your in Nuetral or in Gear. if in nuetral or stopped its probably an injector if its when its under load its most likely (from my experience ) a coil

Agreed...coils, plugs, or injectors. Shouldn't be too hard to diagnose.

When I replaced my plugs last month and then started the car it was idling rough and throwing a misfire code. I pulled the plug for the misfire cylinder and sure enough, the damn spark plug was broken in half! I guess crazier things have happened...
