Fan having trouble coming on
Fan having trouble coming on
For the past few weeks the fan (A/C & heat) has had some issues coming on. It won't come on at all when I turn the car on and set the climate control where I want it. The strange part is that it will suddenly come on if I drive over a bump or a rough patch of road that lightly jars the car. Then everything works great, cooling when I want to be cool and vice versa.
I asked a friend who said to start by checking the fuse, but wanted to check with more experienced Maxima guys first. Can you guys provide me with some quick pointers as to where to start to check into this? The car is a 99 Maxima SE.
Thanks.

+3 to that. The blower motor is under the glovebox. Its a black circular thing. Tap it with a screwdriver and then your fan should start working. My heat wasn't working and I was CONVINCED I broke something. Tapped the blower motor and now I dont shiver anymore in my comfy *** max
I do not have time to write a proper response; sorry.
When you do the above mentioned, it would be best to utilize a volt meter to test [at the motor]. This way you are eliminating 2 things instead of 1.
If you do find that it is a loose connection please repair it properly. Also it would be to your advantage to do the same to any other accessible like-part/connection.
If you are talking about the engine fans, also note the following, likely possibility - when you 'jar' the vehicle, you are helping the brushes make contact. (The engine fan motor is shot / needs repair.) Not worth having your car down for repairs IMO. You can pick up another for ~30 from the JY. If you so choose you can then repair your old unit.

Blower motor starting to seize up. Had this problem during the winter which was worst time of year for that to happen.
