Crickets in the engine bay...

Does anyone else have the "cricket" sound (click-click-click) when the engine/air is cold (around 32 degrees) and the RPMs are around 2K RPMs? Mine is getting annoying and I would like to know what was done to fix it. It goes away when the engine is warmed.

The sound is coming from the "timing chain" area. I use Mobil-1 with a Nissan filter.

My guess is that there is some kind of hydraulic tensioner around the chain that needs "priming" until it is fully working.

Any help/tips would be great on what you did to solve it. The car is a 95SE and has 72K miles.

The rocker arms on the overhead cams might need adjusting. when the car warms up, the tolerance tightens up and the sound disappears.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the timeing chain tensioner problem. Its a known issue, that doesnt seem to cause any damage, but just sounds bad. Nissan wants around $1k to fix it....

It doesn't sound rocker-arm related b/c it is coming from the left side of the engine (passenger side) inside of the aluminum cover that covers the timing chain.

What is the cost of rocker arm adjustments?
