Finishline ECU upgrade
I'm looking for an ECU upgrade for my 97 SE 5spd. I can't seem to get in touch with anyone @ finishline. JWT says the can reprogram a 96 ECU that will work. anny suggestions. By the way, I haven't posted in a while, whats up with our sigs?

I don't have one so I can't speak from expirience

I've done alot of research on ECUs for the 4th gen in the last few days. I've come to conclude that it is DEFINATELY a worthwhile mod. Looking at the dyno plots, N/A cars will gain MASSIVE amounts of midrange power, on the order of 15-17 lbs of torque and the same for HP, though the peak numbers may change only slightly.
I feel confident that someone who knows how to drive, and given good track conditions, could run a high 13 with basic boltons and the ECU. I actually spent an entire day mulling over the ECU in my head, only to realize that my plans for running nitrous next spring throw a wrench in me getting an ECU. Timing advance + nitrous = bad. I ran a 14.46 with just a y pipe, and had hoped to possibly be one of the first maximas to run 13s without nitrous/supercharger/slicks... but at this point I'd rather run low 13s/high 12s on nitrous and low 14s off nitrous than run high 13s all motor and not have anything for the LS-1 boys when I need it.

Pretty sure that all 97+ ecus are swappable to a 96, not too too sure about the 99 though. it has something to do with OBDII or something.

Hope I don't burst any bubbles but I tested my G-Force ECU and stock ECU over and over again, back to back the same night and I am very disappointed. Although my slowest 1/4 mile time with the G-Force ECU was quicker than my fastest time with the stock ECU, I only saw an average of 7 hundreths. Yes HUNDRETHS, not tenths. Also, I spoke to Brian V just this morning about his ECU, ironically, and he said he took his out as its benefits washed out its negatives.
Brian's e-mail to me:
"""""""""
I actually removed mine. I had it on a 97 Maxima so it wasn't
tuned exactly for my car. I took a significant loss in power
from idle to about 3000 RPM. Then from 3000-5500 there was a
strong gain, but 5500-6500 there was no gain; perhaps a small
loss.
The engine didn't run as smoothly with the ECU either. On a 95-
96 I've looked at the dyno's and have seen that te gains are
constant throughout the entire power band. On the 97's though
my results are true. On the track I think the speeds are about
the same. The 60' time with the stock ECU is better, but the
midrange pull that the ECU offers makes up for it later on down
the track.
""""""""""""""
My e-mail to Robert at G-Force:

Yes, I remember the discussion, I forget the content exactly though. If I remember correctly didn't you say ALL ECUs were a joke? No? Now you're saying the JWT is better? Sprint, do you really think the JWT ECU would give me better gains? Why? If so then, yeah, I should have paid the hundred or two more and bought the JWT.
Oh well.

Has anyone actually used the JWT ecu? Is there any significant powere increase? A rep @ JWT assures me 350hp with there ECU & 300zx turbo injectors @ stock fuel press on my S/Ced 97SE. What do you guys think?

Oh man Sprint, where do you live bro.? I am going to drive over there and give you a nuggy until you are bald and I have no skin on my knuckles. You smart @$$! lol. The questions were:
Why did you before say all ECUs were worthless and now you say the JW ECU is great? And how do you know it has better gains than the G-Force? Thanks man.
If I don't talk to you before X-Mas,have a great one.
