Transmission Issues

Hey guys. Heres my problem. The car is a 96 with well over 160k miles on it. When I start her up and let her warm up a bit, shift her in D, she won't move @ all. Same thing if i try and put her in R. I would usually have to put her in 1st and then the transmission will pick up and then into 2 and finally D. Even then sometimes she'll just rev before she finally settles in D. Any idea of whats going on? Could the transmission finally be quitting on me? Linkage possibly? I was told not to do a flush could it could damage the transmission and break down altogether. Any suggestions? Experiences? <-forgot to mention its an auto

Check fluid level and get the transmission fluid changed. I dunno who told you not to flush it but they don't know what they are talking about. As long as it's done properly (preferably by a pro shop like Mr Lube) there is no risk.

Hmm, I guess results may vary based on experience had the fluid changed on both my father's and my car and nothing bad happened. To clarify by flushing I mean changing the fluid without draining it completely and then re-filling.
