To the guys (or girls) with 3" exhaust

Has anyone had any issues with this heat shield after installing the exhaust? Any dragging, rubbing or when hitting speed bumps? Just wanted to know if I have to customize it so it fits properly.

Are you talking about the Cattman 3" exhaust? No issues in that area with mine.

And to the OP, nope!

Just some banging on hard rights, but that's related to the hangers, and not the heatshield.

I believe there was some talk about this, and many went with upgraded/ stiffer hangers.

On both my Maximas, no issues with that particular heat shield.......because I removed it for weight reduction (and the rest too)

Wiz, if you can feel any heat from removing the shields, get this:
http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/pr...ield-mat/76/21

Lots of cars use this stock nowadays(I usually see um on Benz's)

schmelly, I did not order the cattman, Im doing a budget build custom set up but im sticking to the original lay out of the exhaust

flava, do you know where to get stiffer ones?

and wiz, have you had any problems with removing that heat shield? from the looks of it, it looks like its covering the gas tank, isnt it?

I went with Nismo hangars for the three at the muffler, and a generic one from Napa Auto parts for the B-pipe. The generic one is much stiffer than OEM. The generic ones would work fine for all four of the positions.

As for removing the heat shields, I don't have any issues. Keep in mind, that one of my Maximas is supercharged and heavily modified too. IMO, the exhaust is so far away from the gas tank (too far actually , but that's a whole different story) I'm not worried at all.

After I put in a y pipe, hi flow cat, and 2.5 inch exhaust, whenever I take corners or curves, I hear something banging down there. I have looked but nothing appears to be touching anything. But when im driving something is hitting something. What would I need to look at under there to find the cause?

I bet it's hitting the trailing arm. Mine hits on slight bumps etc too.

Sure, I don't see why not. Just make sure whatever spacer you use is meant to be around exhaust piping and is heat resistant. Don't want to start a fire!

The easiest way I think would be to wrap the exhaust with exhaust header wrap or heat wrap like Kevlo posted above just in that area. That's probably what I'll wind up doing too.

I haven't noticed any additional heat inside the car. Ptatohed has also had his off for years, and he's never mentioned to me any additional in cabin heat either.
