I have a buddy with an old Chevy pickup who can do that. I don't know if it's the key or the ignition that's worn, but it's a nice feature. I wonder if your key is worn down, can you start other people's Maximas too?

He's saying that he doesn't have to turn it to get the key out (cuz something is severely worn, most likely the key itself).

We could do that with our old van. Except we could start it without the key in it. I think something was wrong with the starter and we got it replaced under a recall.

I used to be able to do this in my delta. Just pull the key out while driving. Actually to make it a bit more odd I could also start the car with my house key. Nobody elses house keys worked but mine. Except one kid his keys to his civic would turn the old beast over.

Your key must be totally worn out. I coud do that to my 240 sx. Hoever, with the maxima, I use the factory key code and get one made every two years or something on my old 91 max to make sure the pins stay straight and in working order.

If the key were to be removed while driveing down the road, what would happen? Nothing. The engine would keep right on rolling. Once the alternator is running the engine will keep getting it's juice. Nissan may have a security feature to make this difficult to actually do, but obviously it is not flawless. Same way the key code doesn't keep cars from being stolen.

i guess the key code works only when you start the motor. but if the motor is running then the key can be away from the ignition. i just tested it again right know i drove for about 15 minutes with the key on the dash. heheheh i was kind of koo.

I can do that 98 MAX

If I start my car with my starter remote, I can put my key in, turn it to the on position. Ten turn it back to off and the car is still running, even if I press on the brakes. It doesn't do all the time but most of the time. So in order to turn the car of I gotta lock the doors, and then have to turn the car off with the remote once again. Crazy stuff man.

I used to have a 88 Jeep Cherokee, and I didn't need the key to start it, let alone take it out while it was running. I could turn the whole ignition by hand and it would start up.

maybe his key isnt worn, maybe the locking mechanism that prevents you from pulling the key out broke. if it doesnt cause any problems for you consider it cool

this is a mod, man. all you have to do is stick a screwdriver in the ignition and smack the crap out of it with a sledge. then when you're going to the store and it's f-in cold out, you can leave the car running, lock the doors and take your keys with you.

I agree with newman, your paps probably parked the car and pulled up the parking brake without placing the car in park. Thus the car does not move when you release the brake, but key will not come out-until the car is placed in park. Your paps got ****ed and yanked it out thus breaking that locking mechanism. Go to the dealer have them quote you a price to fix. Then have your paps pay for it.
