Help, my idle is nuts, car drives itself to 25 mph
Ok, this has been getting progressively worse. On my 99 GXE auto, every time I start the car, put it in drive, it jumps to like 1200RPMs, and I can literally let the car just cruise on its own. What is going on, even if I rev it, and let it drop, it only drops to about 1100 or so, way too high. After driving around for about ten minutes or so, this stops happenning? Any clue anyone?
Well my answer doesn't really help you, but my car kinda does the same thing. I've even had my idle lowered, and I can still let off the gas and it will cruise on it's own up to about 20 mph...i'm constantly hitting my brakes in stop & go traffic becuase my car wants to drive forever.

no check engine light right?

Similar Problem
I have kind of the same thing happening except that mine is a 5spd and its normal when I start the car and idles ok but when I drive I notice sometimes that after driving around 40mph or more I would stop at a red light and put the car in neutral and idle is fcukin crazy at around 1700RPM. Then I'm driving and it returns to normal by itself. I was thinkin the throttle cable too. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow. What do you guys think??

Check your cold idle idle mechanism. There's a thermostat built into the base of the throttle body that increases the idle rpm of the car until the it warms up enough. Once warm, the thermostat pulls back into the throttle body and allows the throttle "wheel" to rest on the idle stop.
Basically, you just need to loosen a set nut, turn the screw sticking out of the cold idle thermostat, then retighten the set nut.
Hard to explain, but if you have a field service manual, you should find an explanation on how to adjust it.
