I30 starting question
Hey, all!
Wife's i30 has been having a typical ignition switch problem (every now and then it would do nothing if you try to start it). Well, we were at a park yesterday for about 3-4 hours, and when tried starting it, would do nothing. I thought maybe the battery, but everything was off when we left the car. So, next time while cranking, i naturally put my foot on the gas and it started! I was like wtf? these fuel injected cars should not do this, correct? i shut it off and tried starting it as usual, and no dice. Put my foot on the gas and off it went again.
I've heard about jags having flooding issues and actuating the throttle stops the computer from adding more fuel, and the car usually starts.
I've switched out the ignition switch anyway (the old didn't look terribly chewed up), and instantly felt the ignition lock much tighter.
Any explanation on how pressing the gas pedal started the car? was it the ignition switch, or i need to focus on something else as well?
I know her fpr is probably shot, as the car takes some time to start cold. Not sure if that's related at all.
Thank you, all

when you have the gas pedal smashed to the floor it tells the ecu to stop pumping fuel - its a clear code. if you pumped the gas then you could have flooded it.
the lock cylinder could be going if the keys are real loose in the ignition.
usually with hard starts it has to do with one or multiple of these:
ignition switch
ignition fuse
battery
starter
both camshafts sensors (ref and pos)
cranks shaft position sensor
coolant temp sensor
coil packs
clogged egr
dirrty spark plugs
dirrty air filter
dirrty mass air flow sensor
dirrty throttle body
dirrty idle air control valve
possibly throttle position sensor
fuel pressure (not necessarily the fuel pressure regulator) more likely fuel pump
fuel injectors
ENGINE GROUNDS
did i forget anything?
to check and see if the fpr is the culprit, pull the fuel pump fuse and try to start the car a few times to rid the lines of fuel. then go to the fpr and pull off the vacuum hose. if there is gas in the vacuum line then you should replace it.
i'd start cleaning the general maintenance dirrty-ness and see if that helps. also look at your ground wires and see if there is rust building up. if so, clean them.
is the check engine light on?? the bulb could be blown. go to autozone or advanced auto and have them check to see if there are any codes stored on the ecu.
otherwise ur shooting in the dark

gas pedal was not touched when she tried starting the first time, it was not touched by me for the next 2-3 times either. after i've replaced the ign. switch, it has been starting fine. keys are not loose in the cylinder.
i'll need to check the fpr, is the vac line, the one with the clamp on it (on the side) or the smaller one that's underneath it?
cel is off, but works as it should.
no need for that, i have my screw-driver scanner lol

looks like the culprit was the ignition switch. good to hear its starting fine.
