Is this a transmision problem or brake problem please help

Ok, this happened yesterday and today, when i drove the car for the first time for the day, i can put my car in drive and it hardly wants to go forward, but does if i give it enough gas,it feels like something is holding it back, then it finally takes off normally, when i put it into reverse it doesnt move at all until i give it enough gas then it finally releases really hard, i really hope i dont have to put a transmission in this thing, it only has 124k miles, and its an automatic, can anybody please give me some idea of what they think this is

u will need to remove a wheel and have someone else pump the brakes to see if they seized or not.

Almost sounds like a stall converter issue which you do not have so perhaps the fluid is bad or the filter is clogged if there is one(I have never owned an automagic)

I do. About twice a week. It never hangs up while driving, and the wheels never get hot while driving. I can hear it pop loose most times, and its the rear brakes. It is more noticeable in reverse.

Over night, especially on humid nights, the rotors get a little surface rust, and the pads "bond" to the rotors. Nothing to worry about.

Check your rims for excess heat occasional and you should be fine.

BTW I have a 5mt FWIW.

Jack up the rear wheel and attempt to spin by hand with e-brake down. It should spin continuously for a while. If not, caliper is holding it.

wait what??? every automatic has a torque converter and a designated stall speed. my max (dont know if its the same for all) has a stall of 1900rpm to check this; with your car running slam you left foot as hard as you can on the brake and pull up the parking brake then GENTLY floor it (doing this for an extended period can cause damage to you torque converter) where the rpms stop is your stall if its anywhere far from 1900 you have a problem

pull the caliper and bracket from the knuckle and with a HUGE pair of channel locks/pliers compress the piston (this will only work on the front) if it does not compress all the way with ease replace it. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE LINE that just makes more work and a headache
personally i think your caliper slides are sticking. when you pull the caliper off clean em out and re-grease em

I know the person said its an auto but ive known some people who have autos, for whatever reason, to pull the e-brake. If this is you, OP also check ur ebrake lines to ensure theyre not getting hung up and slowly releasing with the vibration when first driving the car after it sits....also is this problem more likely to occur only when the car has sat for long periods, overnight etc. Warm/cold trans? check fluid levels/color?
