why would my #5 coil have a hole melted through one side of the stalk i had a p0300 for a few weeks which was caused by my #3 and 5 plug tube seals i checked the coils right after i had it scanned they were good then i ordered my valve cover gasket when it came in roughly 2 weeks later (and a few hundred miles) i stared with the rear vc gasket and when i removed the coils inspected them again and seen the hole so any input would help i have no clue why this would happen

 

seems you were sparking through the coil. Is the coil old or new?

 

check the spring in the coil. make sure it is not crushed and is straight. also make sure your spark plug is completely tightened. clean the cylinder that these components rest in. to make sure there is nothing flammable.

 

i couldn't tell you how old the coil is i have had the car since feb 2011 and i haven't changed it since i got the car and why would it start sparking through the coil?
