A New and Different Blower Motor Resistor Question
By using the magical "Search" button, I found out that my fan switch only works on setting "4" because the blower motor resistor is cashed. I ordered one through Rock Auto and it came today. However, it does not look like the one in my car. Here's the question I have:
Are there different blower motor resistors for the "ACC" (Auto Climate Control) equipped cars, and the "Manual' heat/AC switch cars? I could not find anything on this in the FSM or by searching on here. It seems that the ACC-equipped cars would have something more sophisticated than a circuit with 3 resistors to control fan speed.
I wondered if I received a unit for an ACC car (mine has manual controls). Here is a picture of the new one I received from Rock Auto, next to my original on the right:
As you can see, the flat part of the new one is way smaller than the original. The connector looks the same, but i didn't want to install it and possibly burn it up if it's the wrong one.

Please note that they're facing each other, not the same direction... plus the new one on the left is upside down. The plastic part is the same, it's only the "credit card" part that is different.

you are correct the ACC does have a different way to change fan speed.
however the "credit card" part can be different it is the heat sink when your fan is set on low it absorbs more electricity and get hotter.
if the plug side lines up it is worth a shot.
I have repaired the ACC fan module(touched the soider points) but i dont think you can on the blower motor resistor.
is your blower making any funny noises?, a lot of times the blower motor resistor is dying because it is taking more heat because the blower motor bearings are going out so it spins slower! make sure it is in good working order so you do not have to change the BMR again.

I recently replaced the blower resistor on another car (corolla). The newer versions dont look like the old ones. BUT, if u have the right resistor the connector WILL fit into the harness.
jus check to make sure the resistor connects up. It should. Dont worry if it looks different, its jus the updated version.

It performs just as the original although it certainly looks different. If it lasts as long as the original (257K), I'll be satisfied.

I have a 99 maxima and my blower motor resistor for it is dead. So as a solution, I took the blower motor resistor from my junk 94 sentra and replaced it into my maxima (it had the same fit).
After testing it, the fan controls started worked properly for a few seconds but then suddenly stopped working. I am guessing that the blow motor resistor fried.
Anyone know what can be the cause?

The blower motor resistor is probably fried. The blower motor in your 99 max is probably more powerful because the cabin is larger. More powerful motor uses more electricity.
Get the proper part. And remember, auto climate control and manual climate control use different resistors.

Just wanted to add this to the archives in case anyone is searching. I am the original owner of the car and I've replaced this thing twice already. This is what a bad blower motor resistor looks like compared to a new one out of the box.

But I would like to add 2 points of caution.
1) Sometimes new parts can look different because they are made a little different.
2) Sometimes there is no visible outside indication of a failed electronic component.
